General instructions for CT thorax (with and without contrast)

X-ray test (CT or scanner) to obtain detailed images of the lungs and thorax.

  • Fasting: Without contrast doesn't require fasting. With contrast, fast from solids for 4-6 hours. Drinking water is allowed up to 2 hours before.
  • Medication: Maintain your usual medication. If you take metformin for diabetes, consult about temporarily stopping it if contrast is used.
  • Clothing and Accessories: Wear comfortable clothes. Remove necklaces, chains, piercings, and garments with metal in the upper area (buttons, zippers, bra underwires).
  • Specific Requirements: Inform if you have asthma, kidney problems, or iodine allergies. You must hold your breath for a few seconds during the test. Informing if you are pregnant is mandatory.
  • Expected discomfort or pain from the test: Painless and quick procedure. If contrast is used, a temporary feeling of heat and a metallic taste in the mouth are common.
