General instructions for Stress test (ergometry)

This test evaluates how your heart responds to physical exercise (walking on a treadmill or pedaling on a stationary bike).

  • Fasting: Strict fasting isn't necessary, but you should avoid heavy meals in the 2 to 3 hours leading up to the test. Have something light. It is crucial to avoid coffee, tea, colas, energy drinks, or alcohol for 12 hours prior, as these can affect your heart rate.
  • Medication: Generally, you should continue your usual medications. However, your doctor might ask you to temporarily stop specific drugs (such as beta-blockers). Always verify this with your specialist beforehand.
  • Clothing and Accessories: Please wear very comfortable clothes, preferably sportswear, and suitable exercise shoes (closed sneakers with good soles). For women, a comfortable or sports bra is recommended. Avoid wearing necklaces or chains, as electrodes (adhesive patches) will be placed on your chest.
  • Specific Requirements: Avoid intense physical exertion or heavy training for 24 hours before the study. We recommend showering before your appointment, as clean skin helps the electrodes adhere better.
