General instructions for Head MRI (with and without contrast)

Radiation-free resonance test to obtain very detailed images of the brain and cranial structures.

  • Fasting: Without contrast doesn't require fasting. With contrast, fast from solids for 4 to 6 hours. Drinking water is allowed up to 2 hours before.
  • Medication: Maintain your usual medication with a sip of water.
  • Clothing and Accessories: Wear loose clothes. Absolute metal restriction (jewelry, hearing aids, zippers). Do not wear makeup on the day of the test. Remove dentures.
  • Specific Requirements: Vital to inform if you have metal implants (pacemakers, clips, etc.). If you have claustrophobia or anxiety, communicate it beforehand (if using sedative, bring a companion). Inform about kidney disease if there's contrast.
  • Expected discomfort or pain from the test: Painless and safe. You will remain still for 20-45 minutes with loud noises (you will be given earplugs). If there's contrast, you will feel an initial prick and a temporary cold sensation.

  • Mandatory requirement: If there is any possibility of being pregnant, it is strictly mandatory to report it before the test.*
