General instructions for Abdominal MRI (with and without contrast)

Radiation-free resonance test to obtain very detailed images of the organs of the abdomen.

  • Fasting: Strict fasting for 4 to 6 hours before the test. Drinking water is allowed up to 2 hours before.
  • Medication: Maintain your usual medication with a sip of water.
  • Clothing and Accessories: Wear loose clothes. Absolute metal restriction (jewelry, watches, piercings, hearing aids, metal zippers, or buttons).
  • Specific Requirements: Vital to inform if you have metal implants (pacemakers, valves, etc.). If you have claustrophobia or anxiety, communicate it beforehand (if using sedative, bring a companion). Inform about kidney disease if there's contrast. You must hold your breath for 10-20 seconds when instructed.
  • Expected discomfort or pain from the test: Painless and safe. You will remain still for 30-45 minutes with loud noises (you will be given earplugs). If there's contrast, you might feel an initial prick and a temporary cold sensation.

  • Mandatory requirement: If there is any possibility of being pregnant, it is strictly mandatory to report it before the test.*
