General instructions for Bone X-rays

Quick and painless test that uses low doses of radiation to create images of bones. Includes RX, XR, Xray, and X-ray.

  • Definition: A quick and painless test that uses low doses of radiation to create images of the bones.
  • Fasting: No fasting necessary. You can eat and drink normally before and after the test.
  • Medication: You should maintain your usual medication as you always take it. Remember that any pharmacological adjustment must be discussed beforehand with your doctor.
  • Clothing and Accessories: We recommend wearing comfortable clothes that are easy to remove, as you may sometimes be asked to use a hospital gown. It is vital not to wear metal objects in the area to be examined, so you must remove jewelry, piercings, watches, glasses, or garments with zippers, metal buttons, or underwires before entering.
  • Specific Requirements: Having a full bladder, special diets, enemas, or a companion is not required. The only indispensable requirement is to inform the radiologic technologist before starting the test if you are or think you might be pregnant.
  • Expected discomfort or pain from the test: The X-ray itself does not cause any pain or sensation in the body. The only possible discomfort would derive from having to maintain a fixed posture for a few seconds if the area to be examined already hurt previously due to some injury or fracture.
