General instructions for Polysomnography (sleep study)

Continuous recording of physiological and respiratory variables while the patient sleeps during the night.

  • Fasting: Does not require fasting, but avoid caffeine, alcohol, and heavy meals starting from the afternoon.
  • Medication: Maintain your usual medication (consult if you take sleeping pills or stimulants).
  • Clothing and Accessories: Bring comfortable, loose two-piece pajamas. Do not wear jewelry or metals. Come without nail polish, as a sensor (pulse oximeter) will be placed on your finger.
  • Specific Requirements: Arrive with clean and dry hair (no gels/sprays). Skin without creams or makeup. Avoid naps on the day of the test.
  • Expected discomfort or pain from the test: Painless. A slight skin irritation might appear when the electrodes are removed.
