General instructions for 24-hour pH-metry

Test that measures the level of acid refluxing from the stomach into the esophagus over 24 hours using a thin probe.

  • Fasting: 6 hours of fasting from both solid foods and liquids.
  • Medication: It is essential to stop taking stomach protectors (omeprazole and similar) 7 days beforehand (or as directed by your doctor), as they distort the test results. Occasional antacids (like Almax) may be taken until the day before.
