General instructions for Mammography

Special X-ray of the breasts used to detect breast cancer and other anomalies.

  • Fasting: No fasting required. You can eat and drink normally.
  • Medication: Maintain your usual medication without restrictions.
  • Clothing and Accessories: Comfortable two-piece clothing (you will undress from the waist up). Avoid necklaces or metal objects on the chest.
  • Specific Requirements: IMPORTANT: Do not use deodorant, antiperspirant, talcum powder, lotions, or creams in the armpits or breasts on the day of the test (they can appear as white spots on the X-ray). If you have previous studies, bring them. If you still menstruate, schedule the appointment for the week after your period (breasts are less sensitive).
  • Expected discomfort or pain from the test: The machine firmly compresses the breast for a few seconds. You will feel pressure that can be uncomfortable or cause mild pain, but it is very brief.

  • Mandatory requirement: If there is any possibility of being pregnant, it is strictly mandatory to report it before the test.*
