General instructions for General stool analysis

Analysis of a small portion of stool to detect possible digestive alterations or infections.

  • Fasting: No fasting is required. You can maintain your usual diet and drink water normally.
  • Medication: Maintain your usual medication. Avoid taking laxatives, antidiarrheals, antacids, antibiotics, or antiparasitic treatments in the preceding days, as they can alter the results. Any medication adjustment should be consulted with your doctor.
  • Clothing and Accessories: No restrictions, as sample collection is done in the privacy of your home.
  • Specific Requirements: Use a sterile wide-mouth jar specifically for stool. The sample must not come into contact with urine, toilet water, cleaning products, or toilet paper. Using the container's spatula, collect an amount equivalent to the size of a walnut (or a tablespoon if liquid). Close the jar and deliver it to the lab ideally within the first 2 hours; if there's a delay, keep it refrigerated (never frozen). For specific detections like Helicobacter pylori or occult blood, there are separate instructions.
  • Expected discomfort or pain from the test: None. Collecting the sample is a completely natural and painless process.
