General instructions for Entero-MRI (EnteroMR)

Magnetic resonance test to evaluate the small intestine in detail without using radiation.

  • Fasting: Strict fast from solid food for 6 to 8 hours. Drinking water is allowed up to 2 hours before (avoid dairy and carbonated drinks).
  • Medication: Maintain your usual medication with a sip of water.
  • Clothing and Accessories: Wear loose clothes. Absolute metal restriction (jewelry, hearing aids, zippers).
  • Specific Requirements: Arrive 45-60 minutes early to drink oral contrast (1-1.5 liters). Likely antispasmodic injection (inform if you have glaucoma or heart problems). Vital to inform if you have metal implants or are pregnant.
  • Expected discomfort or pain from the test: Painless. Drinking so much liquid can cause fullness or nausea. The liquid has a laxative effect (subsequent gas and diarrhea). The antispasmodic can cause dry mouth or temporary blurred vision.
