Laboratory test to detect bacteria, viruses, or parasites that cause infections in the stool.
- Fasting: No fasting is necessary. You can eat solid food and liquids completely normally.
- Medication: Maintain your usual medication. It is vital to consult your doctor if you are taking antibiotics, antiparasitics, antidiarrheals, laxatives, or bismuth, as they can alter the results.
- Clothing and Accessories: No restrictions, as collection is generally done at home.
- Specific Requirements: Collect the sample in a sterile wide-mouth container. The sample should not be mixed with urine, toilet water, or toilet paper. Collect a small amount (size of a walnut), prioritizing areas with mucus, blood, or pus if present. Deliver it to the lab within the first 2 hours; if not possible, keep it in the refrigerator (do not freeze). Do not apply suppositories, ointments, or enemas in the preceding days.
