It is a procedure in which a very fine tube (catheter) is introduced through a blood vessel (usually in the wrist or groin) to the heart to evaluate, and even treat, the coronary arteries.
- Fasting: Strict fasting for 6 to 8 hours before the test is required. Do not consume solid food or liquids (not even water) during this time.
- Medication: Generally, you should take your usual medication with a very small sip of water. However, it is vital to consult your doctor if you take anticoagulants (like Sintrom), antiplatelets, or diabetes medication (especially metformin or insulin), as these often require adjustments or temporary suspension.
- Clothing and Accessories: Wear comfortable clothes that are easy to take off. The hospital will provide a medical gown for the procedure. Please leave all jewelry, watches, and piercings at home, and remove nail polish, as medical staff need to monitor your circulation and oxygen levels.
- Specific Requirements: Local anesthesia and often mild sedation are used, so you must be accompanied by a family member or friend. After the test, you will need to rest for a few hours and cannot drive home. It is essential to inform the doctor if you have allergies to iodine or radiological contrast media.
