General instructions for Visual acuity

Quick and simple test to measure the clarity of your vision by reading letters of different sizes from a certain distance.

  • Definition: A simple and quick test to measure the clarity of your vision by reading letters of different sizes from a certain distance.
  • Fasting: No fasting is necessary. You can eat your usual food and drink water or liquids normally before coming to your appointment.
  • Medication: You should maintain and take your usual medication at the appropriate times, including the use of your routine eye drops or artificial tears. As always, any doubt or adjustment about your treatments should be discussed beforehand with your doctor.
  • Clothing and Accessories: You can wear the clothes you feel most comfortable in. There is absolutely no restriction on metals, jewelry, watches, or body accessories for this test.
  • Specific Requirements: The essential requirement is that you take your current prescription glasses or contact lenses with you. The specialist will ask you to read the chart both with your usual visual correction and without it to evaluate if it is necessary to update your prescription. If you use contact lenses, it is highly recommended to take your case and liquid in case you need to remove them during the checkup.
  • Expected discomfort or pain from the test: It is a completely harmless procedure, without physical contact and totally painless. The only "discomfort" you might experience is a slight eye tiredness as you strain to focus and read the smallest letters of the last lines of the chart, but this will not cause you any harm.
